Government Jobs in Delhi 2026
Delhi, as India's national capital, is home to the largest concentration of central government offices and therefore offers an unparalleled density of government job opportunities. The Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) is the primary state-level recruiter for the Government of NCT of Delhi, filling posts in municipal corporations, Delhi Police, Delhi Jal Board, DUSIB, education department (TGT/PGT/PRT teachers), and various other state agencies. DSSSB conducts exams for over 100 different post codes, making it one of the most prolific state-level recruiters in the country.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) headquartered in New Delhi recruits for IAS, IPS, IFS, and dozens of central services, while Staff Selection Commission (SSC) with its headquarters in Delhi fills thousands of Group B and C posts across central ministries located in Delhi. Delhi also hosts major PSU headquarters — ONGC, NTPC, DRDO, HAL — which recruit qualified professionals every year. For central government vacancies, Delhi residents benefit from being close to examination centres and government offices, making it easier to participate in document verification and joining processes.
Delhi's cost of living is reflected in higher HRA (House Rent Allowance) — central government employees in Delhi receive 27% HRA on basic pay under 7th CPC, which is the highest tier. The NPS (New Pension System) is applicable for all central and Delhi state government employees joining after 2004. Medical benefits under CGHS cover central government employees in Delhi. Candidates should note that DSSSB exams have a separate registration process at dsssb.delhi.gov.in, while central government jobs require registration on the respective recruiting body's portal (SSC, UPSC, etc.).
