Banking Jobs 2026 — IBPS, SBI, RBI and PSB Recruitment

Government banking jobs in India are among the most coveted positions in the country, offering excellent pay, job security, pension benefits, and career growth across India's extensive public sector banking network. The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is the primary recruiting body for most Public Sector Banks (PSBs), conducting the IBPS PO (Probationary Officer), IBPS Clerk, IBPS SO (Specialist Officer), and IBPS RRB (Regional Rural Banks) exams. State Bank of India (SBI) conducts its own independent exams for SBI PO, SBI Clerk, and SBI SO. IBPS PO is the flagship banking exam with vacancies in banks like Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, Canara Bank, Union Bank, and Indian Bank. Eligibility is a graduate degree in any discipline with basic computer knowledge. IBPS Clerk fills customer-facing roles requiring Class 12 + graduation. IBPS RRB Officer Scale I and Office Assistant fill rural banking roles and are particularly popular among candidates from semi-urban and rural areas. SBI PO is considered the most prestigious banking exam, selecting management trainees who are groomed for leadership roles.

Banking exams are held in two or three stages: Prelims (objective MCQ), Mains (detailed objective + descriptive paper), and Interview or Group Discussion. The syllabus covers Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, English Language, General Awareness (Banking and Finance), and Computer Knowledge. The pay scale for a bank PO under the 11th Bipartite Settlement starts at approximately ₹36,000/month with additional HRA, DA, and perquisites. PSB employees also receive health insurance, leave encashment, and provident fund benefits.
