Who Should Apply
This recruitment spans two broad eligibility streams. First, technology specialist roles (DVP Cyber Security, DVP Cyber Innovation & Simulation Lab, Deputy Manager AI Specialist, Deputy Manager IT Security Expert, Deputy Manager Cyber Security Analyst, Dy. Chief Technology Officer, Vice President) require engineering or MCA qualification with 4–18 years of IT/Cyber Security/AI experience. Candidates from BFSI backgrounds, or those with proven innovation track records in digital transformation, are strongly positioned. DVP roles demand 12+ years BFSI-specific experience; Deputy Manager roles require 4 years total IT with 2 years in specialised domains (ML/Deep Learning for AI roles; Cyber Security for security roles).
Second, HR specialist roles (Manager Manpower Planning & Recruitment, Manager Learning & Development) require MBA/PGDM/PGDBM in HR-related disciplines with 6 years HR or training experience. These are distinct from technology tracks and suit candidates with organisational development, talent management, or learning delivery backgrounds. Use the age calculator to confirm your eligibility after applying category-wise relaxations.
Salary and Career Growth
Regular cadre Deputy Manager roles offer in-hand salary of approximately ₹55,000–₹70,000 monthly after NPS (~10% contribution) and income tax (varies by state), with structured annual increments and promotion to Manager within 4–5 years. Contractual DVP positions (₹60 lakhs CTC) translate to roughly ₹40,000–₹45,000 monthly in-hand after tax, but carry role-based bonuses and restricted stock options in some cases — check the official notification for specifics. The Dy. CTO role at ₹170 lakhs CTC is designed for architects with 18+ years, positioning it well above private sector mid-level engineering leadership. Promotion timelines: Deputy Manager → Manager (4–5 years), Manager → Senior Manager (6–8 years). Use the salary calculator to model in-hand earnings based on your state and tax band.
Common Mistakes That Get Applications Rejected
- Incorrect photograph format/size: SBI's portal auto-rejects photos larger than 50 KB or in PNG format. Use image resizer to ensure 45×35 mm, white background, and JPG output before uploading.
- Missing TOGAF certification: Dy. CTO and VP roles mandate TOGAF certification. Candidates without proof of certification will be screened out during document verification, regardless of technical experience. Obtain your TOGAF certificate (Level 1 minimum is typical) before applying if targeting these roles.
- Mismatched dates in employment history: SBI cross-verifies employment records with your relieving letters and salary certificates. Gaps, overlaps, or dates that don't align with your certificates will trigger rejection or mark you ineligible during DV. Be precise: list exact months and years worked.
- Incomplete experience documentation: For AI and Cyber Security roles, SBI requires proof of 2 years in specialised domains (e.g., ML/Deep Learning, Threat Intelligence). Relieving letters alone are insufficient — include job descriptions, performance reviews, or project certificates showing hands-on work in the required domain.
- Fee payment failure or wrong amount: Paying ₹500 instead of ₹750, or attempting payment after the deadline, will cause the form to auto-reject. Submit fee payment immediately after form completion, within the same session if possible.
- Applying without qualification completion: Degrees must be awarded before the closing date (27 August 2026). Candidates in the final semester will be rejected. Ensure your convocation has been completed and mark sheets/degrees are issued by application submission date.
Should You Apply?
Apply if: You hold a relevant engineering degree or MCA, have 4+ years IT experience (or 6+ HR experience for Manager roles), and meet the upper age limit (50 years for General, higher with relaxation). If targeting DVP roles, ensure you have 12+ years BFSI-IT background and can show documented innovation/project leadership. Contractual positions offer significantly higher salaries (₹60–₹170 lakhs CTC) compared to regular cadre (₹64,820–₹99,320), making them attractive for mid-career professionals seeking a 2–3 year high-income stint. Regular Deputy Manager and Manager positions provide job security, pension, and structured career progression — ideal if you plan a 20+ year banking career.
Skip if: You are below 25 years and cannot cite any applicable age relaxation, or your qualifying degree is awarded after 27 August 2026. Skip TOGAF-mandatory roles (Dy. CTO, VP) unless you hold Level 1+ TOGAF certification — SBI will reject you during DV regardless of technical skills. Skip HR Manager roles if your background is purely technical; SBI expects evidence of 6 years dedicated HR function experience (talent acquisition, L&D delivery, payroll administration). Skip DVP Cyber Security roles if you have fewer than 12 years BFSI-IT experience or cannot produce employment letters from regulated financial institutions — SBI prioritises BFSI-proven talent for senior roles.
What Happens After Selection
Once the final merit list is published (typically 4–6 weeks after the written exam), selected candidates are notified via email and SMS. You will receive a joining letter with an expected joining date (typically 4–8 weeks from merit list publication), posting location (see below), and a list of documents to submit during joining formalities: original degree/diploma certificates, medical exam reports, relieving letters, last drawn salary slip, identity proof (Aadhaar/Passport), PAN card, and bank account details for salary crediting. For regular cadre (Deputy Manager/Manager): You will join SBI at the assigned branch/office location (usually all-India posting, with preference noted during application). Training period is 4–6 weeks (induction, role-specific, compliance training) at the nearest SBI training centre. Posting locations typically include major metros (Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai) and tier-2 cities; transfers every 3–5 years are standard. For contractual roles (DVP, Dy. CTO, VP): Joining is at SBI's Corporate Centre or designated innovation hub (e.g., Mumbai or Bangalore). Contract tenure is typically 2–3 years (renewable based on performance). Medical exam, background verification, and IT system onboarding occur within the first 15 days of joining. End-to-end timeline from merit list to first salary: 12–16 weeks on average.
About State Bank of India (SBI)

With over 450,000 employees and 22,000+ branches across India and 40+ overseas centres, SBI serves 50+ crore customers and holds ₹45+ lakh crore in deposits. The bank operates under the State Bank of India Act, 1955, and is a systemically important financial institution (SIFI) regulated by the Reserve Bank of India.
SBI's mandate spans retail and corporate banking, asset management, insurance, investment banking, and digital financial services. The bank is India's nodal agency for government transactions (Jan Dhan Yojana, direct benefit transfers, tax collections) and a leader in financial inclusion. SBI's technology division drives digital innovation — from UPI and BHIM app development to cybersecurity infrastructure and cloud migration initiatives. The bank is a credible, stable employer offering competitive salaries, comprehensive benefits (health insurance for employee and family, housing loans at concessional rates, gratuity, and NPS), and career progression aligned to banking regulation and merit. This Specialist Cadre recruitment aligns with SBI's strategic push to deepen in-house expertise in AI, cyber security, enterprise architecture, and digital talent management.
About the Deputy Manager (AI Specialist) Role
Deputy Manager AI Specialists support SBI's digital transformation by designing, developing, and deploying machine learning and artificial intelligence models for banking use cases — from fraud detection and credit risk scoring to customer behaviour prediction and chatbot development. Day-to-day duties include collaborating with business teams to define ML requirements, building training datasets, implementing algorithms (supervised/unsupervised learning, neural networks, NLP), and validating model accuracy and fairness. The role is desk-based (70%) and lab-based (30%) — most work is in Python/R programming, TensorFlow/Scikit-Learn environments, but periodic meetings with product and risk teams occur. Reporting is to Senior Manager or Principal Data Scientist. The role is non-uniformed, involves NO public-facing duties, and uses workstations equipped with GPU/CUDA for model training. Career progression: Deputy Manager → Manager (AI/Data) → Senior Manager → Principal Architect (5–10 years with strong contributions to production-deployed models).
About the Deputy Manager (IT Security Expert) Role
Deputy Manager IT Security Experts manage SBI's enterprise security infrastructure, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, vulnerability assessment, security operations centre (SOC) monitoring, and incident response. Day-to-day tasks: monitoring security logs and alerts, conducting penetration testing, creating remediation plans for vulnerabilities, updating firewall rules, and generating compliance reports for RBI and statutory auditors. The role is desk-based (60%) and on-call (40%) — incident response may require off-hours availability depending on severity and SOP. Reporting is to Principal Security Officer or Chief Information Security Officer. Non-uniformed, zero public interaction. Tools: Splunk, IBM QRadar, Fortinet, CrowdStrike, Wireshark. Promotion: Deputy Manager (IT Security) → Manager (Cyber Security) → Senior Manager (Security Architecture) — typically 5–7 years with demonstrated incident response leadership and security certifications (CISSP, CEH).
About the Deputy Manager (Cyber Security Analyst) Role
Deputy Manager Cyber Security Analysts provide day-to-day security operations: threat intelligence analysis, malware detection, forensic investigation of security incidents, compliance audits, and security awareness training delivery. Role structure: 50% SOC (Security Operations Centre) monitoring, 30% incident investigation, 20% policy/awareness. Desk-based, with occasional site visits to branch/office locations for physical security audits or training delivery. Reporting to Head of Threat Intelligence or Chief Security Officer. Non-uniformed. Typical tools: SIEM platforms (Splunk), endpoint detection (CrowdStrike), malware analysis (Yara, IDA Pro), and OSINT frameworks. Career path: Analyst → Senior Analyst (5 years) → Manager (Threat Intelligence) — advancement depends on certifications (CEH, ECIH, GCIH) and successful investigation case portfolio.
About the Manager (Manpower Planning & Recruitment) Role
Manager Manpower Planning & Recruitment oversees SBI's talent acquisition for permanent and contractual positions, workforce planning aligned to business growth, and recruitment process outsourcing vendor management. Day-to-day: requisition management (collecting job requests from branches/departments, drafting JDs), posting on internal/external portals (LinkedIn, NAUKRI), shortlisting, coordinating interviews, offer negotiation, joining formalities, and maintaining recruitment dashboards for senior management. Role breakdown: 40% sourcing/screening, 30% process management, 20% vendor coordination, 10% reporting and analytics. Mostly desk-based with occasional field visits to high-hiring branches. Reporting to Head HR or Chief People Officer. Non-uniformed. Tools: ATS (Applicant Tracking System), Excel, Power BI, Workday. Promotion: Manager → Senior Manager (HR) → Principal (Talent Acquisition) — typically 6–8 years with successful scaling of recruitment (headcount target achievement >95%) and cost management (CPC reduction).
About the Manager (Learning & Development) Role
Manager Learning & Development designs and delivers training programmes to build employee capability across technical (IT, cybersecurity, data analytics) and soft skills (leadership, communication, compliance). Day-to-day: needs assessment (surveys, interviews with departments), curriculum design, instructor coordination, online course development (Moodle, Sakai), training delivery (classroom and virtual), and post-training evaluation (KT scores, behaviour change tracking). Role split: 35% training delivery (classroom/online), 30% content design, 20% vendor/partner management, 15% analytics and reporting. Requires travel to training centres (SBI has 15+ regional centres across India) for hands-on delivery; frequent video conferencing for remote delivery. Reporting to Head Learning or Chief Talent Officer. Non-uniformed. Tools: Articulate Storyline, Moodle LMS, Zoom, Canva. Promotion: Manager (L&D) → Senior Manager → Principal (Organisational Development) — advanced within 7–9 years by demonstrating high-impact programmes (employee engagement scores increase, compliance certification >95%), training ROI, and leadership coaching effectiveness.
About the DVP (Cyber Security) Role
DVP Cyber Security (Contractual, 2 positions) is a senior role responsible for enterprise cyber risk governance, security policy framework, incident management strategy, and regulatory compliance (RBI cyber security framework). Day-to-day: threat landscape analysis, designing defensive architecture, overseeing SOC and incident response playbooks, coordinating with external security partners, and presenting risk posture to executive leadership and regulators. Role is desk-based (70%), meetings (20%), occasional site visits to data centres (10%). Reports to Chief Information Security Officer or Chief Risk Officer. Non-uniformed, strategic rather than operational. Expected to hold 12+ years BFSI-specific cyber security experience and a proven track record of managing critical incidents or large-scale security transformations. Contractual tenure: 24–36 months, with potential renewal.
About the DVP (Cyber Innovation & Simulation Lab) Role
DVP Cyber Innovation & Simulation Lab (Contractual, 1 position) leads R&D in cyber security innovation — establishing SBI's first dedicated lab for testing security scenarios, AI-driven threat detection, and emerging defence technologies (quantum-safe cryptography, zero-trust architecture). Responsibilities: building the lab infrastructure, recruiting research engineers, designing and executing security simulations, publishing research papers, and presenting findings to board-level committees. Role is 40% strategic/leadership, 40% technical research, 20% stakeholder communication. Reporting to CIO or Chief Technology Officer. Requires 12+ years technology/cybersecurity innovation background (not necessarily all in banking). Contractual, 24–36 months.
About the DVP (Citizen Centric Initiatives) Role
DVP Citizen Centric Initiatives (Contractual, 1 position) drives SBI's digital inclusion and government-mandated financial services programmes (Jan Dhan, UPI, digital payments in rural India). Responsibilities: requirement gathering with government ministries, designing tech solutions for rural/semi-urban adoption, vendor management, pilot programme execution, and scaling successful initiatives. Role is 30% stakeholder management, 30% technical product design, 25% field work (site visits to implementation centres), 15% reporting. Requires 12+ years BFSI-IT and demonstrated expertise in fintech-for-inclusion initiatives. Contractual, 24–36 months.
About the Dy. Chief Technology Officer (Enterprise Architecture) Role
Dy. Chief Technology Officer Enterprise Architecture (Contractual, 1 position, ₹170 lakhs annual CTC) is the second-highest technology executive at SBI. Responsibilities: long-term technology roadmap planning (3–5 year horizon), enterprise architecture governance (TOGAF compliance), cloud migration strategy, microservices/API frameworks, and CTO advisory on emerging tech (blockchain, quantum, edge computing). Day-to-day: architecture review boards, vendor evaluations, technology steering committees, and C-suite presentations. Role is 20% hands-on technical, 50% strategy/governance, 30% leadership. Reports to Chief Technology Officer. Requires TOGAF certification (compulsory), 18+ years IT experience, and prior CTO office or principal architect experience in BFSI. Contractual, 24–36 months.
About the Vice President (Enterprise & Technology Architect) Role
Vice President Enterprise & Technology Architect (Contractual, 1 position, ₹96 lakhs annual CTC) sets strategic direction for SBI's technology portfolio, overseeing digital transformation programmes, IT vendor ecosystem, and technology investment decisions (capex/opex optimisation). Responsibilities: annual technology strategy presentation to the board, managing relationships with top vendors (Accenture, TCS, Infosys, IBM, Microsoft), technology risk assessment, and industry thought leadership. Role is 60% strategic planning/governance, 25% stakeholder management, 15% technical advisory. Reports to CEO or Chief Operating Officer. Requires TOGAF certification, 15+ years IT experience, and previous VP or equivalent C-suite technology role. Contractual, 24–36 months.
Govt Jobs AI Analyst's Take
This recruitment targets senior-level technology and HR specialists with substantial experience (4–18 years depending on role). Contractual positions (DVP and above) offer significantly higher CTC (up to ₹170 lakhs) versus regular cadre, making this competitive for candidates with banking IT backgrounds; however, 25 of 38 vacancies are Deputy Manager roles with regular pay, indicating bulk hiring in AI specialisation.
Frequently Asked Questions — State Bank of India Specialist Cadre Officer Recruitment 2026 - DVP, Deputy Manager, Manager, Dy. Chief Technology Officer, Vice President

However, final posting will be all-India, with preference noted during application but final location determined by SBI.
Required documents: (1) Degree certificate (B.Tech/B.E./MCA/M.Tech/M.Sc as per role), (2) Post-graduation certificate if applicable, (3) 10th and 12th mark sheets/certificates, (4) Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC candidates only), (5) Domicile certificate if state-specific eligibility applies, (6) TOGAF certification (compulsory for Dy. CTO and VP roles), (7) Experience certificates or relieving letters from all employers (showing dates of service, designation, salary), (8) Recent passport-size photograph (45×35 mm, white background, JPG format, 20–50 KB), (9) Signature scan (JPG, 20–30 KB), (10) Aadhaar Card or Voter ID proof. All documents must be scanned as PDFs or JPGs under 100 KB each.
No physical fitness test (PFT) or medical examination during the written exam or interview rounds. Medical fitness check occurs only AFTER selection, as part of the final joining formality. The medical exam includes blood tests, general fitness assessment, and hearing/vision checks; any medical unfitness may result in rejection despite clearing all other stages.
The notification does not specify an attempt limit. However, age limit remains the effective constraint: once you reach 50 years (General), 53 years (OBC), 55 years (SC/ST), or 60 years (PwD), you become ineligible regardless of attempts. You can apply in future years if you remain within age limit and your experience increases.
Gross monthly: ₹64,820–₹99,320 (MMGS-III Level). After NPS contribution (~10%), estimated monthly deduction is ₹6,500–₹9,900. Income tax varies by state (typically ₹3,000–₹8,000 depending on tax bracket). Estimated in-hand: ₹50,000–₹85,000 monthly. Use the salary calculator tool to model your specific in-hand based on state and tax band. SBI also provides additional allowances (HRA if applicable, transport, medical), which increase net take-home.
DVP positions: Up to ₹60 lakhs annual CTC (approximately ₹5 lakhs/month). After 30% tax and other deductions, estimated in-hand: ₹3.5–₹4 lakhs monthly. Dy. Chief Technology Officer: Up to ₹170 lakhs annual CTC (approximately ₹14 lakhs/month). After tax (~30–35%), estimated in-hand: ₹9–₹10 lakhs monthly. Contractual positions typically have fixed CTC; bonuses and stock options vary. Confirm exact deduction breakup in the official offer letter.
All-India posting is the norm. For regular cadre (Deputy Manager/Manager), posting will be at SBI branches or offices across India — major metros (Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai) are common, but tier-2 cities and rural locations are also possible. You can express location preferences during application, but SBI's final decision is based on business requirements. Transfers typically occur every 3–5 years. For contractual roles (DVP, Dy. CTO, VP), posting is usually at SBI Corporate Centre, Mumbai, or designated innovation hubs (Bangalore). Relocation assistance is provided.
Age relaxation is cumulative with upper limit: General 25–50 years; SC/ST candidates get +5 years (25–55 years); OBC candidates get +3 years (25–53 years); PwD candidates get +10 years (25–60 years). Effective upper age limits: General 50, OBC 53, SC/ST 55, PwD 60. Example: an SC candidate aged 54 is eligible; an OBC candidate aged 52 is eligible.
For Dy. Chief Technology Officer and Vice President roles, TOGAF certification is COMPULSORY. No amount of technical experience replaces this requirement. SBI will screen out candidates without valid TOGAF Level 1 or higher during document verification, regardless of 15–18 years IT background. Obtain your TOGAF certificate before applying for these roles. TOGAF is NOT required for Deputy Manager or DVP roles.
The official notification does not explicitly prohibit applying for multiple posts. However, you will need to submit separate application forms with separate application IDs for each post, and pay the fee for each. Review the notification to confirm multi-application rules. Typically, SBI allows this, but you cannot hold two positions simultaneously — you will choose one if selected for multiple roles.
Stage 1: Online Written Examination (90–120 minutes, 80–150 objective/descriptive questions depending on role, negative marking 0.25 per wrong answer, qualifying score 40% General/35% SC/ST). Stage 2: Shortlisted candidates (top 50–100 per post) attend Group Discussion (10–15 min) followed by Personal Interview (20–30 min; technical depth, BFSI knowledge, behavioural fit assessed). Stage 3: Top scorers (1.5–2x vacancies) proceed to Document Verification: originals checked against uploaded copies, TOGAF, work experience, caste/domicile verified. Stage 4: Medical Examination (blood test, fitness check). Final Merit List: Basis is Written Exam (50–60%) + GD/PI (30–40%) + Document Verification (pass/fail) + Medical (pass/fail).
