About Jammu & Kashmir Government Jobs 2026
Jammu & Kashmir became a Union Territory in October 2019 and now has its government recruitment managed by the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and the J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB). JKPSC conducts recruitment for Group A Gazetted posts including KAS (Kashmir Administrative Service), KPS (Kashmir Police Service), Kashmir Finance Service, and posts in KES (Engineering Service), KFS (Forest Service), and other allied services. JKPSC's combined competitive exam is the highest-level state exam and is highly competitive among graduates across both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
JKSSB (J&K Services Selection Board) manages Group B Non-Gazetted and Group C recruitment for posts including Sub-Inspector (Finance Accounts), Finance Accounts Assistant, Junior Assistant, Steno-Typist, Patwari, Block Social Welfare Officer, and various technical posts. J&K Police Recruitment Board conducts Constable GD and Sub-Inspector recruitment separately. Teacher recruitment in J&K is managed by JKPSC for Master Grade Teachers (TGT level) and JKSSB for Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) contract teachers. As a UT, J&K also has central government employment through UPSC, SSC, and defence establishments.
J&K government employees receive salary under Central Pay Commission scales — being a UT, pay structure is more aligned with central government norms than most states, including central DA rates and HRA classification. J&K domicile certificate is required for state-level posts, and the definition of domicile was updated in 2020 to include long-term residents. Both Urdu and Hindi are official languages, and proficiency in either is expected for state posts. Applications are submitted through JKPSC at jkpsc.nic.in and JKSSB at jkssb.nic.in.
