Teaching Jobs 2026 — Government School and College Recruitment

Government teaching jobs in India are among the most stable and respected positions in the public sector, offering job security, regular pay revisions under pay commission recommendations, generous leave benefits, and pension. Recruitment to government teaching posts happens at the primary, secondary, and higher secondary level through state education departments and central bodies, and at the college and university level through UGC and state public service commissions.

For primary and upper primary school teachers (Classes 1–8), candidates must clear the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) conducted by CBSE or the State TET (STET) applicable in their state. For secondary and senior secondary school teachers (Classes 9–12), a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject along with B.Ed. is typically required. Central School (KV) and Navodaya Vidyalaya (NVS) teachers are recruited through national-level exams, while state government schools recruit through state education departments or SSC equivalent boards.

For college and university-level teaching posts (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor), the UGC-NET (National Eligibility Test) is the minimum qualification for central and state universities. Candidates with a Ph.D. degree awarded in accordance with UGC regulations are exempted from NET. State-level eligibility tests (SET/SLET) qualify candidates for teaching in respective state universities. Recruitment is done through Advertisement by individual universities or through state PSC boards. Pay scales are governed by the 7th CPC and UGC pay regulations.
