About Andaman & Nicobar Islands Government Jobs 2026
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands UT administration recruits directly through the Andaman & Nicobar Administration across its departments of Health, Education, Home, Agriculture, and PWD. Group A officers for the UT are recruited by UPSC through the DANICS (Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar Island Civil Service) and DANIPS (police) combined competitive examination. Group B and C posts are filled through direct recruitment by respective departments or through the Andaman & Nicobar Administration's recruitment board. The UT also has a significant central government presence through the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and CRPF, which together employ a large number of civilians and uniformed personnel on the islands.
Government employment in Andaman & Nicobar is particularly attractive because of the Island Special Duty Allowance (ISDA), which adds 12.5% of basic pay on top of normal 7th CPC salary for all central and UT employees. The islands also carry Modified Field Area Allowance for defence personnel. Teacher recruitment is handled by the Directorate of Education, with openings for TGT, PGT, and primary teachers across Port Blair, Diglipur, Car Nicobar, and other island settlements. Health department recruits Staff Nurses, Laboratory Technicians, Pharmacists, and Medical Officers for hospitals in Port Blair and peripheral PHCs across the Andaman and Nicobar groups.
The total government workforce in A&N Islands is smaller than mainland states given the population of under 400,000, but the vacancy-to-applicant ratio is more favourable for local candidates. Domicile of Andaman & Nicobar Islands is required for most UT administration posts. For technical posts and specialist roles, candidates from mainland India are also considered. Applications for UT-level posts are submitted to the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, while central government posts follow the normal SSC, UPSC, and respective board recruitment processes. The UT does not have its own PSC; UPSC serves the Group A recruitment role through DANICS/DANIPS.
