Government Teaching Jobs for CTET Qualified Candidates

CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) — conducted by CBSE/NTA — has two papers: Paper I (Classes 1–5, Primary Level) and Paper II (Classes 6–8, Upper Primary Level). Since December 2021: CTET certificate is valid for LIFETIME. This change means every CTET pass (from any attempt) remains perpetually valid for all central government teaching posts that require CTET. KVS (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan): the largest central government school system (1,252+ schools, 13 lakh+ students). KVS PRT (Pay Level 7, ₹44,900): CTET Paper I mandatory. KVS TGT Maths/Science/English/Hindi/Social Studies (Pay Level 7): CTET Paper II mandatory. KVS PGT (Post Graduate Teacher): graduation + B.Ed + CTET Paper II for some subjects. KVS also has special educators, music teachers, art teachers, PE teachers — each with CTET requirement.

NVS (Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti): 661 JNV (Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya) schools — government residential schools for rural meritorious students. NVS TGT (Pay Level 7, ₹44,900 basic + accommodation): CTET Paper II mandatory. NVS benefits: free accommodation on campus + meals in dining hall (significant value in rural/semi-urban postings). DSSSB (Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board): recruits Primary Teacher (PRT) and TGT for Delhi Government schools — CTET Paper I/II mandatory. Pay equivalent to Level 7. EMRS (Eklavya Model Residential Schools): 650+ government residential schools for tribal children in scheduled areas — NESTS (National Education Society for Tribal Students) conducts EMRS TGT/PRT exam where CTET is mandatory. EMRS expanding rapidly — major upcoming recruitment source for CTET holders.

Sainik Schools (under Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence): 33 Sainik Schools providing secondary/senior secondary education with military orientation. TGT posts require CTET + B.Ed + relevant subject graduation. NDA Preparatory Institute and similar central schools: CTET required. Central Government Ministry schools (attached to PSUs/CPSEs): CPCB school, BHEL schools, ONGC schools, NTPC schools — CTET requirement. CTET Paper I vs Paper II strategy: appear for both simultaneously (same exam day, separate session) — having both qualifications maximises job opportunities across PRT and TGT levels. Subject preparation for CTET Paper II: Child Development & Pedagogy (common), Language I (English/Hindi), Language II, Subject Area (Maths/Science or Social Studies).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between CTET and state TET for government teaching jobs?
CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test): conducted by CBSE/NTA, valid for central government schools — KVS, NVS, DSSSB, EMRS, Sainik Schools. NOT accepted for state school teaching posts in most states. State TET (UPTET, REET, HTET, TNTET, KTET, PSTET, MAHA TET, etc.): valid only for teaching posts in that specific state's government schools. Not accepted for central government (KVS/NVS) posts in most cases. Some exceptions: Delhi (CTET accepted for DSSSB), Chandigarh (CTET accepted). Recommendation: appear for both CTET and your home state TET — CTET for central schools, state TET for state school posts. This dual qualification maximises your teaching job eligibility across both central and state government schools.
What is the KVS TGT recruitment process?
KVS TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) selection process: (1) Written Test: General English (20 marks), General Hindi (20 marks), General Knowledge & Current Affairs (40 marks), Reasoning Ability (20 marks), Computer Literacy (10 marks), Teaching Methodology (10 marks), Subject-Specific Paper (80 marks) — Total 200 marks; (2) Interview: 60 marks; (3) CTET Paper II qualifying certificate mandatory for appearing. Merit = Written + Interview (total 260 marks). KVS TGT subjects: Maths, Science, Social Studies, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Computer Science, Physical Education, Art, Music. Most competitive subjects: Maths, Science, English. Preparation: subject mastery + TET Paper II pedagogy (NCERT syllabus, learning theories, evaluation methods) + GK/current affairs + computer literacy.
Is CTET alone sufficient or do I need B.Ed for KVS/NVS teaching?
For KVS PRT (Primary Teacher, Classes 1–5): eligibility requires — Senior Secondary (12th) with 50% + D.El.Ed (2 year) OR B.El.Ed (4 year) OR B.Ed. with Primary specialisation + CTET Paper I qualifying. B.Ed alone (without specialisation in primary education) may not qualify for PRT in some rounds — D.El.Ed or B.El.Ed is often preferred. For KVS TGT (Classes 6–8): Graduation (relevant subject) + B.Ed (2 year) + CTET Paper II. B.Ed is explicitly required for TGT. For NVS TGT: same as KVS TGT — Graduation + B.Ed + CTET Paper II. So: CTET alone without B.Ed/D.El.Ed is NOT sufficient for KVS/NVS permanent teaching posts — you need the appropriate professional teaching degree along with CTET.
What are EMRS schools and how do CTET holders apply?
EMRS (Eklavya Model Residential Schools): government residential schools in tribal-dominated blocks across India under Ministry of Tribal Affairs — NESTS manages these. EMRS TGT: Graduation (relevant subject) + B.Ed + CTET Paper II mandatory. EMRS PRT: 12th (50%+) + D.El.Ed/B.El.Ed/B.Ed + CTET Paper I. Salary: TGT Pay Level 7 (₹44,900 basic) + Accommodation on campus. EMRS advantage: residential school allowances + job security of central government service. Selection: NESTS conducts written exam (subject knowledge + teaching aptitude + CTET-level pedagogy) + interview. Posting: EMRS schools in tribal districts — Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Northeast states. Currently 650+ EMRS with 10,000+ teacher posts across subjects — expanding to target 740 EMRS.
