Government Teaching Jobs for B.Ed Graduates in India 2026
B.Ed is the essential qualification for teaching in government secondary and higher secondary schools across India. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) — which runs 1,252+ central government schools — recruits TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher, classes VI–X) and PGT (Post Graduate Teacher, classes XI–XII) annually. TGT requires graduation in the relevant subject + B.Ed + CTET Paper-II clearance. PGT requires postgraduation in the subject + B.Ed + CTET Paper-II. KVS TGT Pay: Level 7 (₹44,900 basic). KVS PGT Pay: Level 8 (₹47,600 basic). These are among the most coveted government teaching posts — regular school hours, school infrastructure, and 40+ days of vacation per year with full pay.
Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) runs Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas — residential schools in every district. NVS TGT (Level 7) and PGT (Level 8) recruitment is similar to KVS, with the added feature that teachers are residential with free accommodation provided within the school campus. Army Public Schools (APS) under AWES (Army Welfare Education Society) recruit TGT and PGT from B.Ed holders across India — selection through AWES Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) conducted twice yearly. APS teachers serve at military station schools. State governments are the largest employer of B.Ed holders — every state SSC (School Service Commission) or education board conducts TGT/PGT recruitment for government school teachers, with vacancies often running into thousands per cycle (Rajasthan, UP, Bihar, MP, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka etc.).
CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is mandatory for KVS, NVS, Army Schools, and all central government school jobs. State TET is required for state government school teaching. Both tests are now lifetime valid (as per 2021 NEP amendments). DSSSB (Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board) conducts Delhi government school TGT/PGT recruitment — one of the best urban teaching jobs. EMRS (Eklavya Model Residential Schools) under Ministry of Tribal Affairs recruits TGT/PGT for tribal area schools — also require B.Ed and CTET/State TET. Salary and benefits in government teaching are excellent: regular pay revision, medical for family, 10% NPS contribution by government, 40 EL, and job security.
