SSSB Punjab JE Recruitment 2026 Reopened – Apply Online Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) Posts

This post is open to diploma holders in engineering disciplines. You must have completed your 3-year engineering diploma before the application closing date. If you are studying in the final year, you cannot apply unless your qualifying degree is already conferred.

SSSB Punjab publishes separate merit lists for Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical disciplines. You may apply for one or more streams, but read the notification carefully to confirm whether multiple applications are allowed or if you must choose a single stream. Age relaxation applies uniformly across all three posts—SC and PwD candidates get a 5-year and 5-year extension respectively beyond the General limit.

• Basic Pay: ₹35,400 (Level-6 of the Pay Matrix).
• In-hand Estimate: After NPS (~10%) deduction, estimated net salary ₹31,000–₹32,000 per month, depending on other allowances (DA, HRA, conveyance) applicable in your posting state.
• Career Path: Junior Engineer to Senior Engineer roles typically open after 8–10 years of service and successful departmental exams; promotions are merit and seniority-based.

The Level-6 pay band is the entry point for diploma-qualified engineers in state government. After 7 years of service, you become eligible for promotion exams to Senior Engineer roles, which attract Level-8 or higher pay (~₹47,000+). Compared to PSUs and private sector entry-level roles, government service offers job security and structured incremental growth, though initial salary may be lower.

• Uploading documents in wrong format: Diploma certificate and transcript must be PDF or image (JPG/PNG). TIFF or Word files are typically rejected; convert beforehand.
• Photo size or background non-compliance: Passport photos with coloured or non-white backgrounds, or dimensions larger than 6 cm × 4 cm, are rejected. Always test-upload using the image resizer tool.
• Signature too faint or in blue/pencil: SSSB systems reject faded signatures or those not in black ink. Sign on white paper, scan at 300 DPI, and verify contrast before upload.
• Incomplete qualification details: Diploma holders sometimes omit the year of passing or college name. Fill all fields—missing data causes auto-rejection.
• Applying after the closing date: The portal typically closes at 11:59 PM on 6 April 2026. Late submissions are not accepted; plan to apply 2–3 days in advance to avoid server downtime.
• Fee payment failure without re-submission: If your payment failed, do not assume the form was saved. Log back in, verify status, and resubmit the fee. No refunds are issued for duplicate payments.

Once you are declared successful in the written test, you will be called for document verification (usually within 4–6 weeks of result declaration). Bring original diplomas, certificates, caste proof, domicile certificate (if applicable), photo ID, and medical documents. SSSB will cross-verify your qualifications against board records and confirm your eligibility for appointment.

After DV clearance, candidates undergo a medical examination conducted by a panel of government doctors (civil surgeon or nominated hospital). Common checks include height, weight, vision, hearing, blood pressure, and blood/urine tests. Once you pass the medical, a final appointment letter is issued. The total timeline from application to joining is typically 6–10 months. Your first posting will be assigned by the respective state PWD or utilities department; transfers are processed as per service rules, typically after 3–4 years in a location.

The Subordinate Services Selection Board, Punjab was established in 1975 to conduct transparent, merit-based recruitment for junior-level government posts across the state. It operates under the Punjab government and conducts exams for posts in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and other technical disciplines. SSSB maintains a digital portal and publishes detailed notifications, cut-off lists, and result announcements on sssb.punjab.gov.in.

SSSB is responsible for staffing state public works departments, irrigation divisions, electricity boards, and municipal corporations. It annually recruits hundreds of junior engineers, surveyors, and technicians. The board is known for conducting fair, online-based recruitment processes and maintaining transparency in selection criteria and merit lists.

A Junior Engineer (JE) in state government works on design, supervision, and execution of infrastructure projects. Civil JEs manage construction of roads, bridges, water supply systems, and building projects. Mechanical JEs oversee maintenance of pumps, compressors, and machinery in irrigation and utilities. Electrical JEs handle power distribution, transformer maintenance, and electrical installation work.

Day-to-day duties include site inspections, progress reports, quality checks, vendor liaison, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Most postings are office-cum-field roles; you will split time between office work (drawings, estimates, approvals) and field supervision (construction sites, equipment yards). A JE is required to wear uniform and carry a government ID. You report to a Senior Engineer or Executive Engineer and supervise a team of technicians and skilled workers. The role is non-uniformed in clerical duties but requires proper attire during site visits.
