Junior Engineer (JE) Jobs 2026: SSC JE, RRB JE and State JE Recruitment

Junior Engineer (JE) is the most common entry-level technical post in Indian government service, recruited across three major routes: SSC JE (for CPWD, MES, Border Roads Organisation, Central Water Commission, and other central technical departments), RRB JE (for Indian Railways, one of the largest single JE recruitment drives), and state-level JE exams run by individual state PWD, Irrigation, and Electricity departments through their respective PSC or subordinate services boards.

Eligibility for JE posts is a diploma in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical engineering (the specific discipline required depends on the department and post), with some departments also accepting a degree holder as eligible. JE posts involve site supervision, quality checking of construction or maintenance work, preparing technical estimates, and reporting to an Assistant Engineer.

Selection follows a two-paper written exam pattern (General Studies/Reasoning in Paper 1, discipline-specific technical paper in Paper 2) for SSC JE and RRB JE; state JE exams follow a similar written-test structure via the respective state board. JE posts carry Group B (non-gazetted) or Group C pay scales depending on the department, with a clear promotion path to Assistant Engineer through seniority and departmental exams.
