Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) Super Specialist Medical Officer, Specialist Medical Officer & Medical Officer Recruitment 2026

The ITBP is recruiting across three medical cadres in this single notification. If you hold an MBBS degree with valid medical registration and meet the age criterion, you are eligible for the Medical Officer (Assistant Commandant) post at Level-10. If your MBBS is coupled with a recognised Post Graduate Medical qualification (MD, MS, DNB in any discipline), you qualify for the Specialist Medical Officer (Deputy Commandant) post at Level-11. Super Specialist Medical Officers must hold MBBS plus a super speciality qualification (such as DM or MCh in recognised fields) and meet ITBP's own criteria for super speciality recognition.

Age is calculated as on the closing date (8 September 2026). The relaxation window of 20 years difference between the lower and upper age limits is relatively wide; however, candidates below age 30 without PwD or ex-servicemen status cannot apply, regardless of their qualifications.

• Medical Officer (Level-10): Basic ₹56,100, pay scale ₹56,100–₹1,77,500. Gross approximately ₹80,000–₹95,000 per month (including DA, HRA, and other allowances). In-hand after NPS deduction (approximately 10% of basic + DA) and income tax: ₹65,000–₹78,000 monthly.
• Specialist Medical Officer (Level-11): Basic ₹67,700, pay scale ₹67,700–₹2,08,700. Gross approximately ₹95,000–₹1,20,000 monthly. In-hand after NPS and tax: ₹77,000–₹98,000 monthly.
• Super Specialist Medical Officer (Level-12): Basic ₹78,800, pay scale ₹78,800–₹2,09,200. Gross approximately ₹1,10,000–₹1,40,000 monthly. In-hand after NPS and tax: ₹89,000–₹1,14,000 monthly.

These are regular government positions under the ITBP (a paramilitary force under the Ministry of Home Affairs), so NPS (National Pension System) contributions at approximately 10% of basic pay plus dearness allowance are deducted from salary; income tax is levied as per applicable slabs. Unlike private sector medical roles, these positions carry zero on-call or emergency fee structures; salary is fixed monthly. Career progression follows the paramilitary hierarchy: Medical Officers can be promoted to Specialist posts after experience and competitive internal selection; Specialists can advance to Super Specialist or senior administrative roles. • Photograph or signature out of specification: ITBP portals are strict on image dimensions (typically 4×6 cm or 200×250 pixels), file format (JPEG), and background colour (white). Coloured backgrounds, passport-style photos, or oversized/undersized images trigger automatic rejection or manual rejection at the verification stage. Resize before uploading using the provided tool.
• Incomplete education details: Medical applications are document-heavy. Failing to upload your MBBS certificate, Post Graduate degree, or Medical Council registration in the correct sequence or in the wrong file format (PDF, not image) will mark your form as incomplete. Many candidates forget to upload the registration certificate; this is mandatory and missing it causes outright rejection.
• Wrong category claim without proof: Claiming OBC or SC/ST category without uploading a valid, signed caste certificate in the prescribed ITBP format (or as per your state's format) is grounds for rejection. If you claim OBC, ensure the certificate is dated within the last three years and is NOT an income certificate.
• Age miscalculation against the upper limit: The upper age limit is 50 years as on 8 September 2026. Candidates who turn 51 before that date are ineligible, even if they were 50 on the application start date (10 August). • Applying for a post below your qualification: While a Super Specialist (DM/MCh holder) can apply for any of the three posts, only apply for the post matching your actual highest qualification and experience. Applying for Medical Officer when you hold a Post Graduate degree may flag inconsistency at verification, and the recruitment board may reject you for under-qualification in case of mismatch.
• Missing or incorrect Medical Council registration number: Your NMC (National Medical Commission, formerly MCI) registration number is critical. Provide the exact live registration number under which you currently practice. A cancelled, lapsed, or incorrect registration will result in rejection at document verification, even if your degree is valid.
• Fee payment failure or wrong fee amount: If you are a General/OBC candidate and paid the wrong amount or if payment failed but you did not retry, your application will be marked as incomplete. SC/ST candidates paying the fee by mistake should request a refund; the system may otherwise flag the application as ineligible.

Once your name appears in the final merit list, you will receive a joining letter from ITBP headquarters with a specified reporting date (typically 4–8 weeks after the final list is published). You are required to report to the designated ITBP medical facility or headquarters on the given date with the original joining letter, original educational and identity documents, a recent medical fitness certificate from a recognised civil hospital, and any other documents specified in the joining letter.

Upon joining, you will undergo a brief induction and training programme (1–4 weeks, depending on the post) that covers ITBP protocols, medical facility operations, paramilitary regulations, and familiarisation with your posting location. You will then be assigned to an ITBP medical facility, typically based on operational requirements and your speciality. Super Specialist Medical Officers are usually stationed at senior medical centres or headquarters; Specialist Medical Officers are deployed at regional or divisional medical facilities; Medical Officers are posted at field hospitals, camps, or remote border outposts. Transfers are routine and based on ITBP postings; expect a new posting every 3–5 years. From selection announcement to first salary entry is typically 4–6 months. Your appointment is probationary for the first two years, during which you remain subject to termination if performance or conduct is unsatisfactory. After two years, you acquire permanent status and full benefits (NPS, gratuity, leave encashment).

They supervise Medical Officers, conduct advanced diagnostic procedures, manage complex cases, teach junior medical staff, and contribute to medical policy at the force level. Super Specialist Medical Officers (Second-in-Command) hold super speciality qualifications (DM, MCh) and hold senior leadership positions at major medical centres or headquarters, directing multi-departmental operations, conducting specialist consultations, and advising on medical procurement and facility planning. All three tiers wear uniform, are subject to transfer postings every few years, and operate within the hierarchical paramilitary command structure; however, clinical autonomy in medical decision-making is generally preserved.
