Frequently Asked Questions

Employees who joined Central/State Govt service before January 1, 2004, and states that have reverted to OPS, are eligible. It provides defined-benefit pension without market risk.

The minimum monthly pension under OPS is ₹9,000 (revised from time to time). This applies even if the formula-based pension would be less.

OPS Pension = 50% of last drawn basic pay (for 33+ years of service). For shorter service: pension = (Years of Service ÷ 33) × 50% × last basic pay, subject to minimum ₹9,000.

Family pension is initially 100% of OPS pension for the first 7 years (or until the employee would have turned 67, whichever is earlier). After that it is 60% of the employee's pension for life.
