MSP is a fixed allowance paid to defence personnel for the unique nature of military service. It is ₹15,500/month for officers and ₹5,200/month for JCOs and other ranks (as per 7th CPC).
Troops posted to active field areas receive Field Area Allowance ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹25,000/month depending on classification (Field Area, Modified Field Area, High Altitude, Siachen etc.).
Personnel who joined before January 1, 2004, are under OPS with defined pension. Those who joined after are under NPS. Disability pension and war injury pension remain under the defined benefit system.
X-Group Pay of ₹6,200/month is given to defence personnel in technical and skilled trades classified as Group X (signals, engineering, medical). Y-Group Pay is ₹5,200 for other technical categories.
