12th Vocational courses in India are offered under state education boards (CBSE Vocational, State Board Vocational streams) in trades like IT, Healthcare Assistant, Automotive Technician, Electronics Repair, Hospitality, Agriculture, Accounting & Financial Services, and Media & Entertainment. A 12th Vocational certificate from a recognised board is treated as equivalent to 12th Pass (Senior Secondary) for the purpose of all 12th-level government competitive examinations — SSC CHSL, Railway NTPC 12th level, state-level clerical and constable exams, and defence enlistment (Agniveer, NDA Army wing).
Technical vocational courses (Electronics, Automotive, IT) often carry partial ITI equivalence recognition — helpful for Railway technical posts (Technician, Trade Apprentice) and PSU apprenticeship programmes. Indian Railways Apprenticeship: 12th Vocational with relevant trade may qualify for Act Apprentice positions in Railway Workshops (RPF/RCF/CLW etc.) — equivalent to ITI for workshop apprenticeship. SSC Scientific Assistant (Meteorology): 12th pass with Physics/Maths — vocational streams may not qualify if the notification specifies core science subjects.
