The Public Service Commission, West Bengal (WBPSC) has declared the result for the West Bengal Civil Service (Executive) etc. Examination. This preliminary result identifies the candidates who have successfully secured the qualifying marks required to advance to the Mains Examination stage.

Passing the Preliminary Examination is a mandatory hurdle in the WBPSC selection framework. The prelims paper serves as a screening test to filter candidates for the subsequent written examination and personality test stages. Candidates are advised to download and save their scorecard and merit list copy for future reference during document verification.

Details Available on the Result Scorecard

Your result document contains vital personal and performance data. Candidates must verify all the printed entries carefully, including:

• Candidate Name and Roll Number
• Registration Number and Category
• Raw Marks and Normalized Score (if applicable)
• Category-wise Cut-off Marks
• Qualifying Status for the Mains Examination

Understanding Your Scorecard: Raw Marks, Normalization, and Merit Status

The preliminary examination consists of objective-type multiple-choice questions. In cases where exams are conducted across multiple shifts, WBPSC applies a standard normalization process to adjust for varying difficulty levels across shift papers. The normalized score reflects your relative performance in comparison to all test takers.

It is crucial to understand that qualifying status in the Preliminary Examination indicates that you have crossed the required cut-off threshold for your category. However, marks obtained in the preliminary paper are screening in nature and are not added to the final merit list, which is based strictly on the Mains written examination and Personality Test scores.

Documents Required for the Next Recruitment Stage

Candidates who have cleared the preliminary stage must prepare their original documents for the upcoming stages and final Document Verification (DV):

• Admit Card of the Preliminary Examination
• Proof of Date of Birth (Secondary / Matriculation Admit Card or Certificate)
• Academic Certificates and Mark Sheets (Graduation or equivalent)
• Valid Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) issued by competent authority
• Photo Identity Proof (Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, or Passport)
• Disability Certificate (for PwBD candidates, if applicable)

Post-Result Sequence and Recruitment Timeline

Following the announcement of the preliminary result, qualified candidates will be invited to fill out the detailed application form for the WBCS Mains Examination. The full timeline generally unfolds as follows:

• Mains Examination Notification: Detailed schedule and admit card issuance for qualified candidates.
• Written Mains Exam: Subjective and objective papers conducted over designated days.
• Personality Test / Interview: Shortlisted candidates from Mains appear before the WBPSC board.
• Document Verification & Medical Exam: Comprehensive verification of credentials followed by medical fitness checks.
• Final Merit List & Allocation: Final selection list based on aggregate marks in Mains and Interview, followed by appointment letters.

Factors Determining the Cut-off Marks

The official cut-off marks for each category (Unreserved, OBC, SC, ST, PwBD) are finalized by WBPSC based on several key factors:

• Total number of vacancies announced for the service cadre.
• Total number of candidates appearing in the preliminary exam.
• Overall difficulty level of the question paper.
• Historical cut-off trends and reservation rules mandated by the state government.

Guidance for Unsuccessful Candidates

If you did not qualify in this attempt, use this result as a diagnostic tool for your ongoing preparation. Review your subject-wise marks once the detailed marksheets are released to identify weak areas. Note that WBPSC results are final and no re-evaluation or re-checking of preliminary OMR sheets is usually permitted. Focus on building core concepts and solving previous years question papers for the upcoming examination cycle.
