PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) from an AICTE-recognised business school (IIMs award PGDM, not MBA) is treated as equivalent to MBA/PGDBA for government recruitment purposes — provided the institution is AICTE-approved. PSU Management Trainee recruitment in Coal India, NTPC, BHEL, ONGC, GAIL, SAIL, POWERGRID, and other central PSUs accepts PGDM in Finance, HR, Marketing, or Operations. Starting CTC: ₹9–15 lakh/year (E1 level in most PSUs). Selection is via management aptitude tests (some PSUs use CAT/XAT percentiles) + GD + PI.
RBI Grade B (General stream or Finance stream) accepts PGDM as equivalent to MBA. Pay: Grade B officer, CTC approximately ₹12–15 lakh/year total. SEBI Grade A (Finance/General) also accepts PGDM from AICTE institutions. NABARD Grade A (Rural Development Banking Service) similarly accepts PGDM/MBA. IBPS SO Specialist Officer posts for Marketing Officer (Scale I) and HR Officer (Scale I) in public sector banks explicitly accept PGDM in Marketing/HR/Personnel. Starting pay: Scale I (₹36,000 basic).
For government job eligibility, the critical requirement is AICTE recognition of the PGDM-awarding institution. IIM PGDM is fully recognised. Other AICTE-approved B-Schools (XLRI, MDI, IMT, FORE, Great Lakes etc.) also qualify. Candidates from non-AICTE institutions face rejection at document verification — always check institution recognition. PGDM holders should prioritise PSU MT notifications that allow PGDM explicitly (not just MBA), as some PSUs restrict to UGC-recognised degrees only. CAT-shortlisted PGDM candidates have access to Coal India, ONGC, and BHEL MT applications directly alongside IIM campus placements.
