CIL (Coal India Ltd) — a Maharatna PSU and world's largest coal producer — is the dominant government employer for Mining Engineers. CIL and its 8 subsidiary companies (SECL, WCL, NCL, ECL, BCCL, CCL, MCL, NEC) recruit Management Trainees (Technical) in Mining Engineering via GATE MN (Mining Engineering) score + company exam/interview. After training: Assistant Mining Manager → Mining Manager → Undermanager → Manager at coal mine sites. CIL pay: IDA scale ₹40,000–₹1,40,000 at E1 entry + special allowances for mine operations. Mandatory Mine Manager Certificate (MMC) of Competency exam required within service for advancement. SCCL (Singareni Collieries) — Telangana state coal company — similarly recruits Mining Engineering graduates.
NMDC (National Mineral Development Corporation) — a Navratna PSU under Ministry of Steel — is India's largest iron ore producer and recruits Junior Engineers / Management Trainees in Mining Engineering for its Bailadila (Chhattisgarh), Donimalai (Karnataka), and Kirandul complexes.
