PSU Jobs 2026 — Public Sector Undertaking Recruitment
Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) are government-owned companies that offer some of the most prestigious and well-compensated jobs in India, combining the stability of a government position with the pay scale of the corporate sector. Major central PSUs include ONGC, BHEL, NTPC, SAIL, GAIL, IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, HAL, DRDO, ISRO, NALCO, Coal India, Power Grid Corporation, and hundreds of state-level PSUs. Recruitment is conducted directly by the PSU or through GATE scores for technical roles.
Most PSU technical recruitment is GATE-based — candidates who clear GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) with a valid score are shortlisted for the PSU's written exam or Group Discussion and Personal Interview. BHEL, HPCL, ONGC, IOCL, GAIL, NTPC, Power Grid, and many others recruit engineers through GATE. Non-technical PSU posts (HR, Finance, Law, Marketing) are typically recruited through independent written exams and interviews conducted by the respective PSU.
PSU pay packages are highly attractive — a Management Trainee at a Maharatna PSU typically draws a starting CTC of ₹12–18 lakh per annum including allowances, HRA, PF, medical benefits, and performance-linked incentives. Additional perks include company accommodation, fuel reimbursement, children's education allowance, and leave travel concession. PSUs classified as Maharatna, Navratna, and Miniratna enjoy greater operational and financial autonomy and are generally considered the most stable employers in the public sector.
